first degree everything.
had this conversation at work the other day with mala-san, that junya is very first-degree, very literal, whereas rei is obviously very conceptual even though she'd probably hate that word. and i, for one, am very torn between the two. not that i have to pick sides (although some shit i can't tell you).
that junya first degree, me as a straight male in a big city i need that sometimes. junya makes shit you need, these days i need that eye gore-tex ripstop parka, some cold days you need that duvetica down with wool socks. doesn't hurt that they're well-designed and full of details too but that's practical, functional shit. and that first degree when extended to his women's line is very, like the junya woman. feminine, sexy, but punk and fierce.
rei on the other hand is more poetic and vague and although there surely is a theme and idea behind the armless exaggerated dress, she won't tell you and more than that, why would you even want to know? rei probably thinks that explanation is an obstacle to appreciation and feel. so yea why would you ask? it's also very western, wanting to know, wanting to understand, wanting to be able to talk about it. but not everything is a matter of understanding. and i, as an arab male raised by muslim women, can understand it, the fatalism, the surrendering to the unknown.
rei speaks, but doesn't talk. she speak surprisingly good english i'll tell you. i just feel somewhere she wishes more people would, you know, get it. stop asking and just get it.
uncle jun is the other type of eastern thinking. you need a sweater here's the best damn sweater possible. now what are you still doing here?
rei makes a man feel special and junya makes a man feel able.
